special oral care network
The special oral care network is a registered charity under the Charity Act 1994, and is governed by the Ministry of Health. SOCN started its operations in 2020 December as a registered society under the Society Act 1966. It is also registered as an approved CPD provider by the Singapore Dental Council, approved as a Giving.SG City of Good organisation, and an international member of the International Association of Disability and Oral Health.
MISSION
SOCN seeks to improve oral care of vulnerable populations in Singapore through supporting locally-sensitive solutions - through advocacy, providing training, supporting standards, create platforms for communication and collaboration, advocacy, and synergising with friends in the wider ASEAN region.
SOCN's Objects are to:
Advocate oral health equity in those who are vulnerable or marginalised through projects and initiatives;
Improve oral health competency for healthcare workers, nursing home staff, caregivers, and members of the general public - focusing on disability and elderly oral care;
Provide professional training, recommendations and maintain standards within this field of oral health;
Support communication and collaboration through a network of members including healthcare professionals/workers, service providers, oral health professionals, medical suppliers - to affect service development, research, and care provision;
Establish a network of persons and organisations in the SouthEast Asia region to exchange oral care expertise and support continual learning.
Special Oral Care is defined as “the field of care provision that aims to improve oral health for frail elderly, or people with developmental or acquired physical, medical, psychiatric and/or cognitive conditions, who are unable to provide for themselves independently.”
